Adjudicators

Adjudicators play a vital part in the running of the Gold Coast Debating competition.

Debates are adjudicated by highly-trained and knowledgeable individuals and panels, who give valuable feedback to teams in their progression through each season.

Who can adjudicate?

Each year, GCD requires a pool of adjudicators to allocate for each round of the competition. It is a condition of participation in the competition that schools provide, at minimum, one appropriately qualified adjudicator for every two teams they enter into the competition. Adjudicators can be teachers, university students, students in Year 11 / 12, past students, family members, or members of the wider community.

Level 1 adjudicators are qualified to adjudicate Junior B, Junior A and Intermediate B divisions only. Level 2 adjudicators are qualified to adjudicate all divisions.

All adjudicators must have a current Blue Card or exemption determined by Blue Card Services Queensland, prior to the commencement of the season.

Conduct of Adjudicators

GCD adjudicators are held to the highest standard, as representatives of the organisation and local schools, in their work with debaters. They are expected to be adequately prepared for their role, act without bias, and be supportive of debaters' efforts.

Training

Adjudicator training is held in Term 1, before the commencement of the season, and at other times during the year as determined by the GCD Committee.
